Glamping: Your Next Unique (and Authentic) Travel Experience

Glampling...I was surprised when I (@qswerve) received a new follower alert on Instagram with a name like Glamping (@glampingdotcom).  I was curious and clicked on the site...WOW!

I must have been living under a rock because every year when it rolls around to August I start getting nervous of whether my sister will make me go camping with the family in H-O-T Texas!  But the Glampling site was nothing like my past family camping experiences of staying on a patch-of-dirt lake site with thin tents, hard ground in sleeping bags and bugs for days...Glamping looked cool!

What is Glamping?

According to the official site for anyone who wants to go Glamping, Glamping is: A global trend has caught fire that offers outdoor enthusiasts an upgrade on rest and recreation. It’s called glamping, a new word for a new kind of travel, defined as glamorous camping. When you’re glamping, there’s no tent to pitch, no sleeping bag to unroll, no fire to build. Whether in a tent, yurt, airstream, hut, villa or treehouse, glamping is a way to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.

Glamping – a fusion of glamour and camping – emerged international and came across the Atlantic over the last decade. Both independent properties and global hospitality brands have capitalized on a jettisoning demand for travelers who want to experience the positive aspects of camping without the “uncomfortable” negatives. Glamping pivots on a high level of service that focuses on the complete comfort of the guests. The amenities found at glamping destinations far exceed anything recreational campers experience.

What we love the most is that the site has a strict set of standards and only highlights properties who have received a minimum four star rating on TripAdvisor.  The site gives you Glamping options in North America (including Canada), South/Central America, United Kingdom, Africa, Europe (including Italy, Spain and France), Oceania (including Australia, Fiji and New Zealand), Asia and the Middle East (Jordan, Israel)!

Other highlights include how you can go Glamping on a budget called Value Glamping! Our favorite value destinations were in the Dominican Republic (starts at only $80/night), the Elqui Domos in Chile (which has a pool and showers and starts at ($125/night) and the Yellowstone in Montana (starts at only $99/night)!  Although they have a limited selection of value options, they are adding new properties that meet their standards monthly.

You can also choose your Glamping destination based on your living choice: Glamping tent, Glamping Villas & Huts, Glamping Eco & Safari Lodges, Glamping Treeshouses, Glamping Cabineering and so much more!

This Value Glamp Starts at Only $99/night!
With consumers continually looking for ways to maintain their household budgets but also not wanting to give up on their family and friends having a unique experience, I don't think Glamping is going away anytime soon!  The property options that were not listed under their Value Camping section started at about $179/night USD and can go as high as $600/night...it all depends on the type of unique experience you want to have! The great thing is that each Glamping site can sleep multiple people so compared to most hotel rooms with minimal nature views and limited capacity, you could still end up saving lots of money going Glamping!

Gather your friends, gather your family, gather your co-workers and tell them you all are going to experience something unique, fun and definitely not the now un-cool way of camping in years past...this is the 2014 version with a glamorous twist!
